First-Year Student Orientation

Welcome to Wayne State! We're excited you're joining our Warrior community! We offer a variety of orientation program options including both on-campus and virtual orientation sessions, as well as some select overnight experience options!

    On-campus orientation

This full-day, on-campus program takes place from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. During this orientation program, you'll spend a full day on campus getting to know about Warrior Life. Meeting with advisors and registering for classes is on the agenda. Come prepared to ask questions, learn about campus and confirm your fall class schedule.

Our separate Parent and Family Orientation program is scheduled for the same day as your one-day program so be sure to add them to your reservation.

    Overnight experience

Students who register for orientation on June 5 or June 22 will have the option to stay the night on campus the evening before their orientation session. Students who participate in this overnight program will have the unique opportunity to experience campus life, meet new friends, hear from faculty and staff at WSU, and enjoy complimentary meals. The overnight experience is limited to just new students.

    Virtual orientation

We offer a limited number of virtual orientation programs for new students. If you are travelling or living overseas, live out of state, or are unable to make it to campus, you can register for this option. Our virtual program is a shortened orientation experience taking place from 12-4 p.m. EST via Zoom.

Important notes before registering for orientation

    • Orientation reservations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and we are unable to take your reservation once a date is full.
    • Use the log in information you created when you submitted your application to Wayne State to reserve your orientation experience. This is most likely your personal email account coupled with a password that you created. DO NOT use your Academica account credentials to log in - it won't work.

Why am I getting an error message when registering for orientation?

There are a few reasons why you may get an error message when trying to register for orientation. The list below is some of the most common reasons and their solutions:

    • First-year students are required to pay their $50 enrollment deposit (or have it deferred based on FAFSA results) prior to registering for orientation.
    • The advising session assigned to your major is full for that day. Capacities are different for each advising area. This means that a specific orientation day could be full for some majors, while still available for registration for others. Please select an alternative date.
    • You are already registered for orientation on another day! If you need to reschedule your orientation session, please contact our office at orientation@wayne.edu and let us know which day you would prefer to attend orientation instead.
    • The orientation reservation system is separate for first-year and transfer students. If you are an incoming transfer student, please visit our Transfer Student Orientation page.
    • Direct Admit Nursing students are required to attend orientation on June 7. Students who have accepted their spot in the direct admit program will be automatically registered for orientation and do not need to register through this portal.

If you are still experiencing an error or need additional assistance, please contact us at orientation@wayne.edu or 313-577-9019.
